LittleBigPlanet debuted at number four in the UK charts, not the number one Sony might have been hoping for, but the game has really fallen down amid stiff competition this week, Media Molecule's user-generated platformer currently residing at nineteenth; not the blockbuster we might have predicted.

Sony, however, assure us that they're not concerned by sackboy's sluggish start, stating they are pleased by sales and predicting that their new posterchild "hasn't even hit his stride yet".

"We're really pleased with the initial reaction to LittleBigPlanet, which has been our highest scoring game ever, I believe, with a Metacritic score of 95 per cent and a huge list of 10/10s or 100 per cent scores. We are also pleased with its commercial performance," Sony offered to Eurogamer.net.

"In other times of the year [LBP] would be a clear number one, so you have to put the chart in context. This is an incredibly volatile time of year and the chart reflects that."

Apparently, LBP now has over 80,000 user-made levels, and Sony are confident the title will sell well and win over the critics.

A major marketing campaign for the game is set to begin next month.
